The
house is located on Sebascodegan Island in Casco Bay on the
coast of Maine. The property is situated on a totally
private, secluded peninsula within the Cundy's Point Association
on 5+ acres, with 2000 feet of shoreline. The house
is within 50 feet of the water on all three sides. To
the West are open views of Quahog and Casco bays, Big Hen,
Birch Island, and Yarmouth Island. To the East is Ridley
Cove and the picturesque fishing village of Cundy's Harbor.
The sunrises and sunsets from this location are magnificent.
There
are several paths from the house through the extensive natural
landscaping. You can get to various perennial beds and
cuttings, vegetable and herb gardens which add charm and color
all year long. The gardens extend to the sea banks;
they are professionally kept and contain peonies, old fashioned
beach roses, lilacs, asiatic lilies, dahlias, blueberries,
wildflowers, lupines, rhododendrons, bayberry, hydrangias
and, foxglove. Along the banks you can walk to a spot
on the beach which is very private and invites swimming and
fishing at low and high tides. Long walks and beachcombing
are also very pleasant. A canoe is provided for exploring
the coves and bays.
From
the house you can easily walk from the point (10 minutes)
along the ocean to the Snack Bar for fried clams and other
local seafood (according to USA Today, they have "The Best
Lobster Roll on the Coast of Maine"). Also within walking
distance are town, Hawks Lobster Pound for fresh lobster,
clams, local smoked salmon, and fish, flowers and The Block
and Tackle Restaurant for great Maine blueberry pancakes.
Farther
afield, Bowdoin College and Brunswick are eight miles away
(providing Maine State Summer Theater and concerts). The
outlet stores at Freeport and L.L. Bean are about 20 miles
away. Both Portland and Boothbay Harbor (where a short
ferry ride to Monhegan Island provides access to the famous
artists colony and hiking trails with spectacular views) are
within a 45-minute drive.
